Perch aims to celebrate both the vital energy of the city and a connection to nature. It addresses the tightly intertwined relationship between human patterns and the contours of the natural environment by focusing on the black capped chickadee. This lively little bird is not a rare or endangered species. It is a hardy urban resident who is a symbol of mutual adaptation.
On busy 5th Avenue NE, sparkling glass bricks with the image of the black capped chickadee lead to the newly reclaimed green space. Along the path that connects to the residential neighborhood and Thornton Creek, one finds bright and colorful bird houses for the friendly urban acrobats and people places with seating made of hammered copper and granite.
