September 1998 Portland Building Installation Space Portland, Oregon
Road Music, a temporary sound installation in the Portland City Office Building connects the contamination in our storm water totransportation. Many of the toxic chemicals found in our watershed come from the daily use of cars and trucks.
When sitting in the sparse space with the hovering gigantic tire, one hears the layered sounds of water, rain, engines, and the operatic recitation of environmental reports. Produced by the workers in this office building, these reports contain information strategic to our survival but are so voluminous and dull that they are seldom read. Road Music adds action and humor to these bureaucratic documents.
