Oregon Outdoor Sculpture Invitational Clackamas Community College, Oregon April - June 1990
Exploring the systems of the urban infrastructure, Linda Wysong looks at trash. As the waste in our environment increases, it is more and more difficult to ignore the garbage that is piling up around us. The Portland metropolitan area sends hundreds of unmarked trucks (each loaded with 29 tons of trash) down the scenic Columbia Gorge. This installation, entitled, Going Where? brought this hidden topic out into the open.
The students of Clackamas Community College witnessed bales of recycled materials that moved and multiplied weekly. Slowly, the plastic, paper and metal accumulated and spread out in front of the hovering presece of Mt Hood.
The poet Harold Johnson added words - bringing insight and humor to the shifting bundles as the bales gradually spread over the campus and then tumbled into a pile.
